announcing: Madeleine Annette

July 26th, 2007

So, baby girl #2 has arrived.

The nitty gritty:

Madeleine Annette

7.25.07 @ 2:16am

7lbs 5 oz.

19 3/4 in.

We’ve dubbed the labour as being the FAST AND FURIOUS. My water broke @ 10:25pm, just as my mom and I had returned from seeing Ratatouille (mental note: send thankyou to Pixar for putting me into labour). By 11pm we were at the hospital — these are the benefits of living a whopping 6 blocks away — and were checked in. I made it known right then that I wanted an epidural, and anytime anyone asked me from that point on the answer was always YES. I think I started begging for “the drug man” by 1:00am. By 1:30am I was definitely not happy.

The “drug man” arrived at 2am, but just as he was prepping me for the epidural I loudly announced (or yelled…): I gotta push! The nurses said: What? And I iterated again: I gotta push! Well, Dr. Drug was not done and was instructed to abandon epidural and just give me a spinal. He had 30 sec. to do it before I was on my back pushing. Baby arrived @ 2:16am, spinal took effect @ 2:20am. So, I ended up having a natural 4hr labour. Not exactly the plan… but then we’ve concluded that birth plans are stupid because birthing never goes according to a written down plan. Never.

Anyway, Madeleine is afflicted with the same issue that we had with Maja in that she and I have incompatible blood types, which causes jaundice. So, starting mid-afternoon on the 25th and continuing until tomorrow morning (hopefully not longer) she’s in the tanning bed here doing phototherapy.

There are a bunch of pictures up on my Flickr account. Enjoy.

Yay!!!! I love all the pictures, and am so happy for all of you. Madeleine, like her sister, already shows those gorgeous long fingers that are the mark of a musician in the making. Watch out, I’ll snatch them both before long. Hope Emerson is doing okay at home….
