It’s been so busy this spring that my little plot in the community garden has really been neglected. I didn’t get around to planting anything until late May, which means I missed spinach, peas, and lettuce season.

I did manage to plant some tomatoes, tomatillos, and eggplant. And as luck would have it, later in the spring some kind soul who was waaaaaay more on the ball then I donated some extra seedlings from their early spring endeavors and I planted some broccoli, spring onions, and a squash (still to be determined what kind! pumpkin? zucchini? summer? butternut? who knows!)

So I planted the things. And thankfully we had a spring with enough rain that my neglected plants did not die.

And today I harvested my first two tomatillos.

Tomatillos

And the tomatoes are doing well.

More tomatoes

And the eggplant is thriving.

Baby eggplant

And this makes me happy.

Nice! What are you going to do with your tomatillos? I searched for seedlings at the local stores and only at the last minute found a seed packet. We’ve got 4 plants that made it and are doing very well but no flowers yet – hopefully didn’t start them too late.

envious! This is August 6 and my eggplant is the size of a fingernail – my tomatoes however compare to yours at this time: 1 month later!
