Picky eater?

August 10th, 2009

I’ve always thought of Maja as a picky eater. There are pickier eaters out there, I know. But… Maja does have a limited number of different kinds of foods she’s willing to eat. And with those she’ll only eat very little of it (3 spoonfuls of mac’n'cheese; 2 tortellini; 1 slice of toast, etc.).

Until recently. On her 1508th day of life Maja willingly ate some taco — with “spicy” meat. I nearly fell out of my chair when she built this taco consisting of the shell, a layer of rice topped with some grated cheddar, a layer of spicy meat topped with some grated cheddar, and a layer of chopped romaine topped with some cheddar (clearly a cheese themed-taco). She ate it.

Madeleine ate some taco shell. There’s time, she’s only on her 741st day of life.

On Saturday evening I decided that we were going to try the new Japanese restaurant, Tampopo, that opened in our neighbourhood this week. I like supporting the new restaurants in our neighbourhood but I’m always reluctant to go with the girls because I’m always afraid that they won’t eat and then we’ll have hungry and cranky kids on our hands in a public place that we can’t easily escape from.

I thought the Japanese restaurant might work because I know both the girls will eat noodles and plain rice.

And we went. And they ate. With chopsticks. Next week: Indian food? Or am I being too ambitious??
